A practical RFQ checklist for buyers requesting custom bamboo and wooden homeware quotations.
Why a complete RFQ produces a better quotation
A product photo and target price are useful starting points, but they are not enough to compare quotations. Two suppliers may interpret the same image with different materials, thicknesses, construction and packaging. The resulting prices can look comparable while describing different products.
A useful RFQ creates one common specification. It helps the manufacturer identify technical questions early and lets the buyer compare samples, prices and production against the same requirements.
Define the product and its intended use
State what the product is, who will use it and where it will be sold. A serving board intended for direct food contact has different finish and testing considerations from a decorative tray. A bathroom product needs different moisture-use guidance from a desk organizer.
- Reference image, drawing, existing SKU or physical sample
- Intended use and target customer
- Destination country and sales channel
- Any critical performance or testing requirement
Provide dimensions, material and construction
Include overall dimensions and identify which measurements are critical. If a dimension may change, provide an acceptable range. Specify bamboo, acacia or another preferred material, but allow the factory to propose an alternative when cost, weight or stability is important.
- Length, width, height, thickness and tolerances
- Solid wood, laminated bamboo, panels or mixed materials
- Fixed, folding, adjustable or knock-down construction
- Hardware, accessories and assembly requirements
Describe finish, logo and packaging
Words such as natural, walnut or matte can be interpreted differently. A reference sample, color target or clear visual direction is more useful. Logo artwork should include the required position, size and process. Packaging affects both product cost and shipping protection, so it should not be left until production is complete.

Include commercial planning information
Quantity affects material purchasing, machining setup, packaging and unit cost. Share a realistic first-order quantity and forecast separately. Include the destination, preferred trade term and target delivery window so the quotation can identify assumptions.
