Editorial scope: Prepared by the Xin Xiao Mu manufacturing team for procurement planning. Final requirements must be confirmed for the product, destination market and current regulation with an accredited laboratory or qualified adviser.
Start with product use, not a certificate list
A cutting board, shower bench, desk organizer and children’s stool do not share one universal test plan. Define intended use, food contact, age grading, load, coating, packaging claims and destination countries before a laboratory maps the applicable requirements.
Common decision areas
| Product situation | EU planning reference | US planning reference |
|---|---|---|
| Food-contact kitchenware | Framework Regulation (EC) No 1935/2004 and applicable national/product-specific rules | FDA food-contact requirements for the substances, coatings and intended conditions of use |
| Manufacturing controls | Good Manufacturing Practice Regulation (EC) No 2023/2006 | Supplier formulation, traceability and applicable FDA documentation |
| Children’s product | Age and product-specific safety requirements | CPSIA/CPSC requirements may apply |
| Load-bearing furniture | Market/product-specific stability and strength standards | Product-use, retailer and jurisdiction-specific requirements |

Documents to request
Request the exact material and coating specification, supplier declarations, traceable reports, tested sample description, method, result, issue date and intended market. A report for a different construction is not proof for the current order.
Build testing into development
Identify requirements before sampling, then confirm the final test plan after the pre-production sample and before mass production. See our quality and compliance process.
